time for some music

Long absence of live music in my life of late. Due to my laziness mostly and the weather... went and checked out 2 bands in a week though last week.

Belgian band Hoquets. My friends Jerome and Sylvia took us there. They make their own instruments... lyrics are hilarious. singing about Belgium and France but the tunes are actually good so it's not tacky. Really amusing and fun to watch. Cute band.
Then we went to Le Bus Palladium to see Montreal band the Besnard Lakes.
Le Bus Palladium has been renovated and came back with new doco and sound. Good sounds there and clean!! man that's a plus... dirty toilets are not cool unless you're already wasted...

Birthday week

It was last week but hey I like dwelling on it for as long as I can.
The day before my birthday, we went and saw the strange boys. They were amazing. Such a good gig with good sound. They're coming back to Paris in June. can't wait.
Then we had dinner at this restaurant in Montmartre called le jardin d'en face. Highyl recommended. I had egg cocotte with frois gras and for main, a whole fish. And for dessert, white chocolate mousse. Fabulous!!!!

Then, it had to be done. Disneyland Paris...

Space Mountain Misson 2 is ridiculous... so fast and nuts...

Then on Tuesday, we had a crochet session with the ladies. A night of crocheting and fine music and wine.

La Cave Cafe

My new favourite cafe. Just down the road from my apartment. Good music, laid back and good food. Now that I can't have the standard near me, I had to find an alternative and this can be it I think.

Back in Montmartre

Nice day for a wonder today in Paris. We went walking down to Abbesses and I found a really cute cupcake shop. Obviously it's new. The staffs were incredibly keen to be nice to you. Also found out that she is an American baker with a French husband.

When I was there, there weren't much choice but hopefully, they'll have more.
I had a coffee one. It came in a little box. YUM. Looks great but it tasted amazing too. it's not too big to feel bad about eating it either.

And, I found this amazing craft shop near my house! no more hunting for good supplier far away. It was closed today, but I looked in the shop and they had yarns. yakes. Looks like they have lots of workshops there.

Vintage Barcelona

There were so many vintage clothing and record shops in Barcelona. Timeout guide told me to go to carrer Riera Baxia and Tallers for vintage shopping. It seemed to me, the northern soul was quite big sub-culture. Ah, good old Gimme Shelter and Sweet Jelly Roll. There were so many amazing 60s shoes and dress that actually fits me. Holala! has 3 stores around Raval (though, I couldn't find the 3rd one anywhere.) They were quite reasonable and had good pieces.

I really liked this shop though in San Pere. Good range for boys as well. Heaps of Member's Only stuff. I found this beautiful light green trench coat with pretty lining inside. So good!!!

After going through a couple of narrow alleys trying not to get lost or mugged, we found this amazing little shop "Ann-Lena" this young girl makes most of the stuff including crocheted animals. She says she now doesn't have time to make everything so she designs it and get someone else to make it for the shop. They also have lots of cute little things from Germany. Adorable.

Yummy Barcelona

I love Spanish food. I would dare to say out of all European cuisine, I love Spanish food the best. Best of all, food in Barcelona is so much cheaper than Paris! Restaurants will usually have lunch special deals, including 3 course meal and a drink for 10 euro.

We came across this little restaurant opposite Sta Maria del Mar. Salmon Crepes for an entree, battered deep fried fish fillet for main, and Creme Catalan for dessert... a little bit heavy on my problematic stomach, but it was worth the pain. It was great.

We also found this little one in Raval. Iposa. It's a little bar/restaurant. Reasonable pricing. Amazing seafood and wine. Good little bar with contemporary design. Carpachio was so refreshing.

To be honest, my stomach couldn't handle the rich Spanish food after that... despite my desire to have tapas, paella etc. I had to have a little break from olive oil and cheese for a couple of days. I really wanted to go to this tapas /champagne bar my friend Barbara told me about. But they were taking long easter break and it was closed!!

On the last day for lunch, we found this little cafe in the small streets of San Pere. Covered with 70's photo comic strips. They looked so amazing. I really wanted to find out where I can get those old comics but it was our last day so we couldn't.
The food and drinks there is so beautiful and cheep. Lady that runs it spoke perfect English and was kind to us not knowing what anything on the menu was... although some of them are in English. Snacks are around 3 euros and for me couple of those will fill me up just fine. I had Camembert and dates sandwich, Manchego cheese with almonds, onion relish, olive pates and mini fruits toast. This is what it was kind of like. It's often served with fruits and nuts. quite similar to Parmesan cheese. It's made from sheep milk.
They also sold books and crafts in the cafe.
